Lady Gaga postponed the European leg of her world tour as she battles health problems, the tour’s promoter said Monday.
The singer said in an Instagram post Monday that she has been “searching for years to get to the bottom” of her “physical and mental health struggles.”
“As I get stronger and when I feel ready, I will tell my story in more depth, and plan to take this on strongly so I can not only raise awareness, but expand research for others who suffer as I do, so I can help make a difference,” Lady Gaga wrote.
Lady Gaga last week canceled a scheduled appearance at Rock in Rio in Brazil due to “severe physical pain that has impacted her ability to perform.” She revealed recently that she is suffering from fibromyalgia, which, according to the Mayo Clinic, is “a disorder characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain accompanied by fatigue, sleep, memory and mood issues.”
The signer fired back against online accusations that she was being “dramatic” or “playing the victim.”
“I use the word ‘suffer’ not for pity, or attention, and have been disappointed to see people online suggest that I’m being dramatic, making this up, or playing the victim to get out of touring,” Lady Gaga wrote. “If you knew me, you would know this couldn’t be further from the truth. I’m a fighter. I use the word suffer not only because trauma and chronic pain have changed my life, but because they are keeping me from living a normal life. They are also keeping me from what I love the most in the world: performing for my fans.”
Lady Gaga was scheduled to perform in Spain, Switzerland, Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Britain, Denmark, Sweden and Germany as part of her Joanne World Tour.
“Lady Gaga is suffering from severe physical pain that has impacted her ability to perform,” Live Nation, the tour’s promoter, said. “She remains under the care of expert medical professionals who recommended the postponement.”
The singer “plans to spend the next seven weeks proactively working with her doctors to heal from this and past traumas that still affect her daily life, and result in severe physical pain in her body,” Live Nation added.
“I am looking forward to touring again soon, but I have to be with my doctors right now so I can be strong and perform for you all for the next 60 years or more,” Lady Gaga wrote. “I love you so much.”
Lady Gaga was hospitalized with “severe physical pain that has impacted her ability to perform,” according to a statement on the singer’s Instagram page, and is under the care of “expert medical professionals.”
Lady Gaga revealed recently that she is suffering from fibromyalgia. “Fibromyalgia is a disorder characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain accompanied by fatigue, sleep, memory and mood issues,” according to the Mayo Clinic. “Researchers believe that fibromyalgia amplifies painful sensations by affecting the way your brain processes pain signals.”
The pop star announced in another Instagram post featuring a picture of her arm with a drip in it that she had canceled her performance on Friday at Rock In Rio in Brazil. She said she is “devastated” that she won’t be able to perform, but that “I have to take care of my body right now.”
Lady Gaga canceled a show in Montreal, Canada, earlier this year after becoming ill.
